For all the Christian Campidano this place of worship is an inevitable point of reference. All thanks to the unconditional devotion to the beloved Sant'Efisio. Tradition has it that the saint was martyred right where a small church named after him stands today.

During the first days of May, for almost four hundred years, a flood of faithful on pilgrimage arrive from Cagliari in procession, in an event that is perhaps one of the best known in all of Sardinia. From the Cagliari church of Stampace the Saint is taken home in an intimate episode full of feeling.

Originally the entire area was used as a place of early Christian worship and the church was consecrated only in the 12th century. Today it shows typically Romanesque lines, mighty, heavy, solid, and influences of Franco-Catalan architecture. Right away you can see the three small naves separated by mighty pillars, all three covered with barrel vaults.

Through two of the naves it is possible to access the crypt which according to legend contained the mortal remains of Efisio and Potito, saints and martyrs. In short, a real architectural jewel just a few steps from the sea.
